Waterjet Cutting
ICS offers Abrasive & Pure waterjet cutting services.
Abrasive vs. Pure Waterjet Cutting
ICS exclusively provides contract waterjet cutting services, specializing in both abrasive and pure waterjet cutting. Each process has distinct advantages, with the choice primarily depending on the material to be cut. Both abrasive and pure waterjet cutting techniques deliver more precise cuts and smoother surface finishes compared to traditional cutting methods.
Pure Cutting
Pure waterjet cutting utilizes a high-pressure stream of water without any added abrasive material.
As the original method developed for waterjet cutting, this process relies solely on the pressure and speed of the water to penetrate materials. It is used for cutting softer materials such as rubbers, fabrics, foams, and metal foils. Additionally, pure waterjet cutting is employed in the food industry due to strict health regulations. Some of the most common pure waterjet cutting projects at ICS include:
- Paper gaskets
- Rubber gaskets
- Insulation
- Foam tool trays
Abrasive Cutting
Abrasive waterjet cutting is similar to pure waterjet cutting, but it incorporates an abrasive garnet material into the high-pressure water stream.
This addition enables the cutting of hard, thick materials. With the use of this garnet and our 94,000 PSI waterjet pump, ICS can cut the strongest metals. Some of the most common abrasive waterjet cutting projects ICS has undertaken include:
- Metal gears
- Metal flat patterns for brackets
- Rough blanks for the aerospace industry
- Phenolic plastics for electrical systems
- Armor plates
